The common reason for this is that your SQL recovery model for your database has been set to Full. The Full recovery model in SQL allows for point in time restores - however this model requires careful managing by an SQL administrator regarding backups to ensure that datafiles do not grow excessively large as this can cause issues with the stable operation of your database.
