Error: 'An error has occurred whilst communicating with Access Document Management'

This error indicates Dimensions cannot communicate with the Access Document web service. The full error text includes 'Unable to connect to the remote server'.

📌 Note: This article only applies if you are an Access Document customer. If you host your own Access Document Management database, some parts may still be helpful.

When hosted by Access, Access Document connects via the web service at https://document.accessacloud.com. User credentials are used to authenticate access. This error can indicate either:

  1. Invalid Access Document credentials are being passed from your user to the web service.

    • OR

  2. An internal network issue

Start by confirming the Access Document credentials are valid:

  1. In a web browser, go to the Access Document login page.

  2. Log in with the same Access Document user your Dimensions user is connected to.

    • If you need to check this, find it in Dimensions under User Records.

  3. If you can log in successfully, the problem is not your credentials.

  4. Move on to the network checks below.

Check the Access status page for any known incidents. If none are listed for Access Document, ask your IT team to investigate why the URL above may not be accessible on your network. Confirm whether the issue affects all users or just one PC.

  • Try a different web browser if you are using FocalPoint.

  • Disconnect from any VPN or Remote Desktop session and reconnect.
